Almost all of our styles and appearances are influenced by the most popular celebrities and artists of today. Whether you’re going to a party, the mall, or the beach, you want to look your best, of course, so you get all glammed up. In today’s release of “Get the Look,” professional makeup artist Mauri Estrada shows us an Olivia Rodrigo-inspired look that anyone who wants to try it can easily copy it.

For Mauri, the reason Olivia Rodrigo was his inspiration was that she is a well-known singer whom many people admire. It was Olivia’s simple look and Y2K style that inspired people to copy her look. “Another reason I chose that particular look is that it corresponds to the summer looks for this season. Summer styles typically come with bronze, sunkissed, or neutral-colored makeup. So I thought her look in GQ magazine was beautiful and used it as inspiration for the shoot.” Mauri stated.

“The makeup is based on her photo, but of course, it’s already my version, and the photo inspiration isn’t exactly what it is. What I did was research what the trend is this year or season. I did as much as I could, with more skin finished on the model’s face. Because the foundation isn’t too thick, the skin looks very natural. Following that, I did not use a contour product; instead, I contoured the face with blush, which is one of the trends for 2022,” he explained.

Mauri started by prepping the skin for makeup application with BSkin Products. To keep the skin’s natural moisture balance, he used the BSkin Vita Advanced Natural Balance Essence, an alcohol-free, lightweight essence that instantly hydrates and restores the skin’s natural pH balance, followed by the BSkin Vita Advanced Intense PAF Concentrate, a serum with high concentrations of stabilized L-Ascorbic Acid that he also used as a primer.

He used Make Up For Ever ULTRA HD in Y305 shade for the foundation and Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting powder to set it. “I used Make Up For Ever because it looks great in photos and videos. However, because I only want a skin-like effect, the application is very thin. The foundation that was used tends to make the skin look super matte up or the foundation is thick when used too much, so I made the foundation really just super light,” he said.

Strokes Beauty Lab’s Crush Blush in Revel shade was what he used as a blush. The color appears to be brown with a warm undertone. He also used this as his base color for the lips and eyeshadow. Strokes Beauty Lab’s Crush Blush is a lightweight, blendable, and buildable cream formula that melts into the skin for an effortless and natural-looking wash of color. “Everything appears monochromatic, and everything appears to blend together,” Mauri stated.

After that, he used a very light highlighter which is Soft and Gentle by MAC Cosmetics, a luxurious, slow-baked, velvety soft, domed face powder with a radiant finish. He also applied eyeshadow from the Tarteist Pro Remix Palette in the Mic Drop shade to the eyes for a more dramatic look. In addition to being extremely cozy, this shade has just a hint of copper color in it.

As for applying eyeliner, he used the intense brown, Dior Crayon Eyeliner. It’s a waterproof, soft pencil that blends smoothly and lasts long. With this, he was able to make the model’s eyes appear more defined and tightened.

In terms of mascara, he used the Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Waterproof Mascara. It is a long-lasting mascara that delivers full volume and amazing length. He used this product because the model’s lashes are thick and she no longer requires false eyelashes.

For the eyebrows, he used Strokes Lab Brow Fixer in a clear, strong-holding and long-wearing invisible brow gel. “That’s all I did. I didn’t color them or anything; I just brushed them to define the shape of the brows,” he explained.

Colourette’s Colourtint in Isla, which is easily blendable and ultra-pigmented with a nude matte finish, and a clear, non-sticky, and lightweight Colourglaze lip gloss in Daydream were also applied to the lips. Mauri achieved a natural-looking look by not defining the application or the lips, giving the impression that he simply smudged it on top.

Finally, he used the MAC Mineralize Charged Water Skin Hydrating Mist to set the makeup.

“The makeup looks fierce because our model already has a fierce look,” Mauri explained. “However, if I put that makeup on an angelic face, the look will change based on its features but with the same application of the makeup.”

“With the specific look that I created, you can use it for an evening event or attending a wedding this summer if you want to glam up. Because the makeup can be worn by women with both morena and fair skin, the look is extremely versatile. After all, the colors I used are simply neutral or earth tones, and there is nothing that any skin tone can’t be pulled off,” he continued.

Mauri Estrada also discussed how to make your makeup last all day. “Dryness is something that the human skin does not like. Dry skin is the number one enemy of makeup. In the Philippines, even if you say it’s humid, you should have the right moisturizer on hand,” he explained.

“Don’t use an oil-based moisturizer if your skin is prone to oiliness. Hyaluronic acid is a water-based formula that can be used. In order to avoid a cakey makeup appearance, use it to moisturize your face,” he pointed out.

“The priming, don’t skip the face primer before applying your foundation. After that, apply a foundation with the correct undertones. Because foundations come in a variety of undertones, you should pay close attention to the undertone of the one you chose,” he said.

In the Philippines, the majority of people have yellow undertones, but there are also neutrals, which fall somewhere in between warm and cool undertones. The color of your skin is important. Knowing what undertones you have will help you choose the right foundation for your skin.

“When it comes to making your makeup last, the right products are important. You have to lay the groundwork first. The powder is required after the foundation has been applied. If your foundation is thick, you’ll need a little more powder to set the foundation. If your foundation is thin, you can get away with using less powder. After applying all the products on your face, use a setting spray to ensure that your makeup doesn’t budge throughout the day,” he ended.
