Meet the Empowered All-Female Selection Committee of Miss U ‘21

As we all know, an all-female selection committee is set to judge for the 70th Miss Universe pageant. The bold and beautiful committee members include Filipina actress Marian Rivera, supermodel Adriana Lima, beauty queen Urvashia Rautela, model Lori Harvey, actress-host Adamari Lopez, and Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere. Actress Rena Sofer is part of the final’s selection committee, while host Chelsie Kryst and Miss Universe 1976 Rina Mor are part of the preliminary selection committee. Mor is also the first Israeli beauty queen to win the Miss Universe title. 

The set of judges are all achievers who have been into diverse careers and succeed in whatever field they have chosen. They are all epitome of women empowerment yet they embody grace and beauty. And because of these, they landed into headlines and made netizens all-over the world so curious and went searching for their credentials. Let’s get to know them more.

Marian Rivera – Selection committee member

Marian is a successful actress, host, commercial model and at the same time, she has a happy family. Known as GMA Network’s “Primetime Queen,” she previously had various roles on different television series in the network’s primetime slots. In many instances, she volunteered to help in providing assistance to typhoon victims. In 2014, she lent her star power to promote the rights of women and children with disabilities in the country as she was appointed by the Philippine Congress as Ambassador for Women and Children with Disabilities. Marian also actively supports Smile Train, an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate.The actress likewise owns a floral business, Flora Vida, which has since expanded to include homewares, furniture and a clothing line.

Adamari López – Selection committee member

Adamari is a Puerto Rican actress who has been the star of various soap operas and has been known for the challenging roles she played. She is also the entertainment host of “Hoy Día”, an American morning television show. She inspires women with her brave fight against cancer and she has campaigned for breast cancer awareness since she survived. In 2020, López was a Weight Watchers (WW) ambassador and has become the epitome of transformation. She used to be plump but now, she slimmed down giving women the hope that they could also make a remarkable change.

Adriana Lima – Selection committee member

Adriana is  best known for being the longest-running Victoria’s Secret model from 1999 to 2018.  She has also walked for well-known designers’ runway shows like Versace, Jason Wu, Giorgio Armani, Vera Wang, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Christian Dior, Alexandre Herchcovitch and Anna Sui. In 2021, she was chosen by Hola! USA as “Changemakers” of their “Latina Powerhouse Top 100” list. She was the host and executive producer of the American reality competition show American Beauty Stars, which premiered on September 23, 2017. Adriana is also a compassionate beauty who does charitable work. She has been supporting an orphanage, “Caminhos da Luz” (Paths of Light), located in Salvador. She helps with construction to expand the orphanage and buys clothes for poor children in Salvador, Bahia.

Iris Mittenaere – Selection committee member

Iris was the Miss Universe 2016 title holder. Aside from being a model and a TV host, she is  considered as one of the most famous European influencers. In Forbes France’s Summer 2019 issue, Iris was in the top 5 of France’s digital influencers. In 2018, Iris released her first autobiography entitled French Toujours y croire : Miss Univers, une jeune femme (pas) comme les autres which means Always believe in yourself: Miss Universe, a young woman (un)like any other. The book chronicles Mittenaere’s origins in Northern France and her pageantry experience, some beauty tutorials and advice for young women in order to build self-confidence. This year, she became the ambassador of World Vision France which protects and empowers the most vulnerable children.

Lori Harvey – Selection committee member

Lori is an American model and social media influencer. She has recently graced both Paris and Milan Fashion Week walking for Dolce and Gabbana and also has an upcoming Dolce and Gabbana campaign. Lori also made an appearance at the 2017 Met Gala in New York. At 24, she is already a budding entrepreneur and has recently launched her own skincare line SKN by LH.

Rena Sofer – Finals Selection committee member

Rena is a Daytime Emmy award-winning actress  for her portrayal of Lois Cerullo in the soap opera General Hospital.  She began her acting career after being discovered on the streets of Greenwich Village, New York when she was 15 years old. Her career began on the daytime dramas Another World and Loving. She was soon cast by Sidney Lumet in A Stranger Among Us. Since then she has been working actively in both television and film. Her credits include Covert Affairs, NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Heroes, 24, Ed, Just Shoot Me, Melrose Place, Seinfeld, and most recently as Queen Eva in Once Upon A Time.

Urvashi Rautela – Selection committee member

Urvashi is a Bollywood actress who promotes women empowerment. She was crowned Miss Diva Universe 2015 and represented India in Miss Universe 2015. She was named as the Youngest Most Beautiful Woman in the Universe 2018 by the government and tourism of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India and won the Uttrakhand Maharatna Award from the chief minister of Uttrakhand. On 24 October 2020, Urvashi became the first Indian woman to walk the runway of the Emirati label Amato which showcased on the official calendar of the Arab Fashion Week. She is also an international performer, producer, singer, and philanthropist. She runs the Urvashi Rautela Foundation commended for its efforts to help the needy.

Cheslie Kryst – Preliminary selection committee member

Cheslie was crowned Miss USA 2019 and became among the top ten finalists in the 68th Miss Universe. Before becoming a beauty queen, she earned a law degree and an MBA at Wake Forest University. She was also a civil litigation attorney who did pro bono work to reduce sentences for inmates. She is currently a correspondent for nationally broadcast entertainment news show, “Extra,” and regularly interviews big personalities.

Rina Mor Goder – Preliminary selection committee member

Rina was the first Miss Israel ever to win the Miss Universe crown. In 1981, she wrote a book on her experience as Miss Universe. Mor-Godor is a lawyer in Tel Aviv, working on her doctorate and appearing every week on a morning show where she gives advice on family law.
